The introduction to the oral exam is an opportunity for the Candidate to meet the panel and also to speak about their project.
This video segment focuses on the Chair’s and Candidate’s introductions. Refer to the section on introductions in the Oral Examiners Manual for more information on how to proceed with introductions.
Tip:
When conducting oral exams, it’s important to let the candidate know that your eyes may shift during the questioning so that you can record answers. It’s still important to make an effort to look directly at the candidate as often as possible, but letting them know why you aren’t doing so all the time helps manage the candidate’s expectations.
